Story
Kaitlyn was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia in May 2019 at 17 months old at Wexham Park Hospital. Within 48 hours, she was driven on blue lights to the John Radcliffe Hospital where she commenced 2.5 years of intensive chemotherapy and multiple other treatments. Kaitlyn had a very challenging induction period to her treatment after getting sepsis from her Hickman Line. This resulted in a 5 day stay in intensive care where she was intubated and ventilated on a life support machine.
From then on, Kaitlyn has come up against many many further challenges with well over 100 overnight stays in hospital due to multiple complications with her treatment. One of which resulted in a visit from the air ambulance team in her own front room!!
The list of treatments Kaitlyn has endured is very extensive including, chemotherapy daily, blood and platelet transfusions, bone marrow aspirates, lumbar punctures, x-rays, ultrasounds, echocardiograms, 4 separate central line placements (one of which burst in clinic) 100's of infusions and many many general anaesthetics.
Kaitlyn eventually rung the End of Treatment Bell in October 2021 after a really long 2.5 years for her. Kaitlyn faced every single challenge with a huge smile on her face. (The only child ever to ask for a McDonald’s mid septic shower).
The future is bright for our shining star 🌟
