Story
We did it!
The McGarva sisters would like to thank you for sponsoring us on our 15 mile walk around Glasgow at night. We completed the walk in 5hours 30minutes starting and finishing at Glasgow Caledonian University. The route was pre-planned and took us from the city centre to the west end and then into the south side before going on the home straight through the merchant city. We saw many of Glasgow's well known landmarks and attractions - as well as some more unusual sites since it was a Friday night!
Take a look at our before and after photos from the night in our charity t-shirts!
We are thrilled to have raised an amazing amount of money for the charity Fight For Sight and we know the donations will all be put to good use.
Thanks again on behalf of Fight For Sight.

------------------
The McGarva sisters have joined forces and are raising money as a team for Fight for Sight. We will walk 15 miles around Glasgow at night on the 20th of September in an organised "Carrots NightWalk".
We have decided to support and rally for the charity Fight for Sight for a number of reasons. As students within the Vision Science department at Glasgow Caledonian University we understand and appreciate the work that the charity does in raising money to fund eye research and treatments for disease. The charities work will have a direct impact on our career and our patients that we treat. We hope that the charities efforts will allow us to improve the quality of life of patients through advanced diagnosis and treatment.
On a more personal level, we are raising funds for Fight for Sight through our own personal experiences with visual problems. Emily developed amblyopia as a young child and recently underwent squint surgery for double vision. Katie has meares irlen syndrome and her purple tinted spectacle lenses make a huge difference to headaches as well as improving her reading. Also, with diabetes running in our family (our dad, uncle and grandpa) we are wary of the visual complications associated.
Fight for Sight supports a wide-range of eye conditions, including macular degeneration, glaucoma, cataract, diabetic retinopathy, childhood blindness and a large number of rare eye diseases.
The charity receives around 90 applications a year for research funding and they are able to fund 15-20% of these applications. They receive no government or statutory funding and so are dependent on voluntary donations.
All donations are greatly appreciated!
