Emily’s Story
*EDIT* We were so excited to complete the walk July 2020 but unfortunately due to all the restrictions still in place because of Covid-19 we have been unable to do so as we would have liked. My mum is still going and will complete what she can of the walk but I contracted Covid myself and was unable to train for a while. I am still not back to full strength so completing such a physically gruelling challenge is not realistic at the moment. We are determined to do this though and complete it together so we are going to give it a proper go next May 2021 when we will SMASH IT! We will keep this page open until then but I wish my mum the best of luck with her challenge this year and we will be training hard again when she returns ready to do it together next year. Thank you all for your support and donations. It means so much to us both.
I have suffered with mental health issues since my teens & have been in & out of various treatments for the last 19 years. Two years ago I had a breakdown & tried to take my life. I was poorly for a very long time both before & after but with the help of Minds services I have been able to get back on my feet. Mind are an amazing charity who offer talking therapies & courses on how to regulate your emotions & I am very passionate about the work that they do.
In May 2021 myself & my wonderful mum, who has been an unending support to me, are attempting an 80 mile walk along Hadrians Wall over 5 days. Walking up to 16 miles a day for 5 days in a row is no small task for me & my mum....we are not fitness enthusiasts to say the least! But this is a journey I want to complete personally to show myself how far I have come & to raise money for this charity who have helped to save my life with the skills they have taught me.
My mum has been through her own kind of hell living with a daughter who is sometimes so unwell she doesn’t feel like she wants to be here anymore. After my breakdown my Mum often found it hard to reach me & she wants to experience this walk with me because she sees it as a blessing that I am here & healthy enough to accomplish something so challenging. Precious time spent together achieving something that 2 years ago would have been impossible.
Please help support us get to the finish line!
