Story
When it comes to running, I was a bit of a late-starter, at age 40. I ran my first 5k race in 2019, my first 10k in early 2020, and then after a covid-induced hiatus, my first half-marathon in Autumn 2021.
In a fit of post-race enthusiasm, I immediately signed up for the Glasgow Winter Warmer Half-marathon in February 2022, but after a few weeks of festive overindulgence, I'm starting to question myself...
So what better motivation then, than to raise some funds for Barnsley Hospice? My personal connection to Barnsley Hospice is that my sister Becky is a Consultant in Palliative Medicine there. Becky and her colleagues provide specialist palliative care and support to people with active, progressive and life-limiting illnesses which cannot be cured.
Together, they strive to improve the quality of life for patients and their families by providing pain and symptom relief, as well as practical, emotional, bereavement and counselling support services.
I am in awe of, and have enormous respect for the vital work they do, particularly during the challenges of the past two years. My proposed 13-mile plod around Glasgow Green and along the Clyde on 6th February suddenly pales into insignificance. Please do support me in supporting them.
Thank you,
Emily x.
