This year I'll be running a 10km for ReachOut! a mentoring charity that helps children from deprived backgrounds. It's a really great cause and is working here in the UK, so please give generously and contribute what you can to help those who want to learn.

"ReachOut! was founded in Manchester in 1994 with a few determined volunteer mentors and mentees. Right from the start we have been committed to enabling young people to be the best they can be through mentoring. More history.

Today, hundreds of children and young people in Manchester, London, and Glasgow enjoy one-on-one mentoring sessions that directly contribute to their ongoing personal and academic development.

We recruit, train and support mentors on various projects throughout Manchester. Our mentors, who are mostly from local universities, volunteer in several primary and secondary schools.

By either working one-on-one or in supportive groups, our mentors seek to support the development of mentees’ character and competency in line with our unique framework of development.

Over the course of an academic year our mentees are supported on a path of academic and personal growth in line with their individual plans. Additionally, our volunteers receive full training and support throughout the year that sustains their personal and skills development."
