Eden Dora Trust for Children with Encephalitis is a local charity based in Sheffield supporting children UK-wide with encephalitis (inflammation of the brain), a virus, which typically causes acquired brain injury, and which also supports children suffering from other acquired brain injuries caused either by illnesses (such as meningitis) or traumatic head injuries. 

Our fundraising work is unable to carry on as normal at the moment due to social distancing but the very important work carried on by the charity with families, health professionals and education professionals continues. Further, the charity is unable to access any Government support.

EDT is the only charity in the UK helping children suffering from encephalitis and was set up by a local mum, Petrina, after her daughter suffered from encephalitis in 2011. After her daughter returned home from hospital she felt lost without access to proper information. Instead of just dealing with her and her family's immediate situation, she decided to set up EDT in 2014 and has helped many families since

Families currently have children ill in hospital with encephalitis or have recently had their child diagnosed with an acquired brain injury or are struggling to deal with the long term effects caused by the resulting acquired brain injury. Health professionals and educational professionals are usually given training and awareness sessions by the charity about acquired brain injury - that need has not gone away.
