Story
What We Are Doing
We are using our passion and love for singing to not only bring the Elms Bank Community together, but also the wider communities. Many students at Elms Bank have underlying health issues and are classed as 'vulnerable'. As such, we are incredibly grateful to our NHS workers and those on the front line, whose actions go beyond our gratitude.
We wanted to do 'our bit' to support the NHS. After such interest from our first song - our cover of 'True Colours' - we thought what better way to do that than with a charity song!

How It All Began!
Elms Bank is a very 'special' special school. As soon as you walk into Elms Bank you can feel the warmth, love and affection every member of its community has for each other. So many visitors comment on how we make everyone 'feel'. The staff are truly dedicated to their work and each and every one of them go above and beyond in their day to day work.
Many of our students and staff have underlying health issues and the school supported them in their decisions to self-isolate. What we didn't want to lose was our sense of community at this time of isolation. Over the last few weeks, the school's Twitter feed has been alive with fun topics, various challenges and lots of updates so that everyone knows how to get help if they need it. An army of form tutors and pastoral team members have been checking in on families and ensuring they get the right help, at the right time, from the right agency. We've created a virtual school community as strong as the physical one!
To keep our community together, we launched the #KeepSinging challenge. This then evolved into our very own Elms Bank Virtual Choir, which now has over 40 singers! We have been absolutely overwhelmed by the incredible response from the public.
The actual school choir has over 50 members and we have a thriving staff choir. The choirs have performed all over Manchester, as we believe singing keeps our community strong and together. Many of our students main form of communication is through song. Why wouldn't we revert to singing at these worrying times? It is what we at Elms Bank do best!
