Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Throughout my life, I have considered myself, and tried my hardest to be, a good person. This always has been what I intend. Now I am at University, where the opportunities are endless, I feel that now is the time where I should begin to make a difference. On the 6th of September 2015, the Loughborough team and I are beginning our trek up Mount Kilimanjaro in order to raise huge sums of money for the Meningitis Research Foundation.

I have never raised a substantial amount of money for charity before, which is why I feel a need (as well as a want) to take part in this trek up Mount Kilimanjaro and raise a large amount of money for this great cause.

Of course, a large pull factor in me taking part in this trek was the once in a lifetime opportunity to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. It will be something that I will never forget, and truly cannot wait for. However, if I was to do it without raising money for charity, I will have been doing something good for myself. My motivation is to do something good for others.

Since the first trek meeting, I have researched more into the disease itself and realised how devastating it can be, leading to me having my Meningitis jab the following day. Meningitis can kill and disable in hours, and I urge everybody to have their jabs if they have not done so already. 10 people contract meningitis in the UK every day. 1 out of those 10 people will die from the disease, and 4 out of 10 of those people are left with life altering disabilities including limb loss and permanent loss of hearing.

I feel that before signing up to this fundraising experience, I was not well aware of the disease and the damage it can cause. Meningitis is serious, and can truly destroy lives. I want to raise awareness and raise money. Any help with either of these things, I would be greatly appreciative.

I have a set goal to raise £2990 before July, and have already began the process. Absolutely any money donated will be going to a truly amazing charity in the Meningitis Research Foundation, and will be appreciated not just by myself, but of course the sufferers of this horrible disease. Be it £100, a fiver or just a quid, absolutely anything will be massively appreciated by myself and many others.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Thank you for reading my story behind the trek, and thank you especially  to those who donate any amount of money to this great cause. Please help me help others.

Meningitis is deadly; killing and seriously disabling in hours. Small children and young adults are high risk, but all ages can be affected. Globally 1,000 people die daily. We fundraise to invest in research, campaign for vaccines, provide symptom information and support those already affected.
