We all work together at BOC, and a colleague is going through a tough time with her Mum, who was diagnosed with terminal cancer last October. She doesn't know that we have all signed up to do Race for Life - we thought it might make her cry!!
Over the past few months, a number of us have had close dealings with cancer, whether that be relatives or friends, and so we all have very different, personal reasons for doing this. However, linking it to Mrs Misson provides us with a focal point (although all the others will be in our thoughts).
Now, as you consider how generous you are going to be with your donation, have a think about the following:
1) 5k distance.
Some of you may be thinking "that's not too far", and I agree... if I'm in a car!! Trust me - to many of us participating, it feels more like a marathon
2) Its just a nice morning out with friends.
To coin a phrase, we are colleagues, not friends, (© NW), and there will be no cake, I repeat... NO CAKE!! Added to this is the significant risk of there being sunshine on the day..... for some of the more translucent in our gang, this represents a very real and present danger of 3rd degree burns
3) You can just walk it
Absolutely... but the key thing is that we are STILL DOING IT. We are making an effort, (more of an effort for some than others), and being proactive. Who cares if we walk.... who cares if I have to be stretchered over the line linked up to oxygen (as long as its BOC oxygen of course). Whilst there are some semi-professional gym bunnies in our group, there are just as many whose idea of exercise is going back to the bar for the next round.
So, that's what we are doing, and all you have to do is click on this site and make a donation - easy peasy and a very quick way to really make a difference.
(In all liklihood, there will be another JustGiving site set up after this event to raise money for the heart and lung transplant that I will need after doing this, but don't let that restrict the amount you donate on this occasion)
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
So please dig deep and donate now.
