Story

Thank you for visiting my JustGiving Page!

Sooo, think I might have eaten too many pick 'n' mix one day and decided to climb Kilimanjaro in August with Manchester RAG ahh! A group of approx. 40 of us will be trekking for six days, reaching the 5895m high summit of the tallest free-standing mountain IN THE WORLD!! Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro is an absolute whopper of a challenge and alongside the fact that it will be a huge personal achievement this trek is also for an amazing cause as I will be doing it in aid of Meningitis Research Foundation.

It is estimated that there are around 3,400 cases of bacterial meningitis and septicaemia every year in the UK and Republic of Ireland. This means that every day, nine people become ill with the diseases.  With one in ten people dying, a death will occur almost every day. A further two people will be left with life-altering after effects as severe as brain damage, deafness and multiple amputations.

Most people are unaware that after babies and toddlers, young adults are the second most likely group to catch the disease. Cold and flu-like symptoms can go unrecognised or what seems like a hangover can become fatal within a few hours.

I will be funding part of the trip myself and my target of £2500 will include the price of flights and the expedition, with the rest of the money going straight to MRF. Your kind donation will help to raise vital awareness alongside funding MRF’s research programmes into methods of prevention, detection and treatment of both meningitis and septicaemia. It will also support those affected by the disease through counselling and rehabilitation programmes. For more information please visit http://www.meningitis.org/. Anybody of any age is at risk, and with your help, lives could be saved.

I know everyone says this but literally every penny counts! Please give as little or as much as you like, knowing that your money is going towards an amazing cause. Make sure you tick gift aid and thank you so much for your support! (any more donations in pick ‘n’ mix will also be greatly appreciated to get me through this, oh god.)

Meningitis is deadly; killing and seriously disabling in hours. Small children and young adults are high risk, but all ages can be affected. Globally 1,000 people die daily. We fundraise to invest in research, campaign for vaccines, provide symptom information and support those already affected.
