Fundraising for Macmillan Cancer Support
As many of you will know, I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2007 when I was 28 years old. I made a list of all the things I would do when I got better, and rather optimistically I put that I'd run the marathon for Macmillan as item number 2...so here I am!
Getting cancer isn't something that happens every day, or thankfully to everyone. I had absolutely no idea what I was doing. My Macmillan nurse was called Cathy, and she was incredible. She was with me when I got my diagnosis and at every single hospital visit for the whole of my treatment for more than 18mths. She is still on the end of the phone today if I need her. She kept me sane, made me laugh, was kind to my parents, answered all the questions we wanted to hear the answers to and stopped people telling me the things I just didn't want to know.
I was very lucky to have an incredible family and amazing group of friends on hand. Lots and lots of people just aren't that lucky. They have no one to talk to, no one to help them figure out their finances, or what help is on hand to look after the kids while you're having chemo and to explain crazy medical jargon. Macmillan is an amazing charity and I feel very very lucky indeed to be out the other side of feeling rubbish, feeling very well and able to give a little something back.
So provided my knees don't fall off and I stick to my slightly bonkers from zero to marathon training plan, I'd be really grateful for your support.
