Story

Hi beautiful!

Thank you for taking the time to see what Im up to! In July I shall be biking 300 miles from London to Paris with a group called EJF to raise awareness of the environmental problems directly linked to the fashion industry. All funding will go directly to EJF. I would really appreciate and cherish any support you can give in helping me reach my goal. If money is a drag im also in need of some gear both athletic and fantastical...u know how i roll so feel free to fashion me something fun and i will try to do it justice :)

If your personal experiences with me isn't enough to convince you i need help :) allow me to break down the who, why and what behind my adventure.

EJF stands for Environmental Justice Foundation.....sounds good right...well they are pretty awesome! Established in 2000, they are a registered (legit) charity which provides the tools and training needed to empower the people who are directly suffering from environmental abuses. EJF provides film training to individuals and grassroot orgs so they may document, expose, share and create long term solutions to the issues they personally face and believe are destroying their environment. What better way to understand what people need than by hearing and seeing it through them? The team of  campaigners and film-makers based in London work with their grassroot partners to solve locally. They have undertaken investigations in 16 countries so far including Brazil, Vietnam, Mali, Sierra Leone, Uzbekistan, Mauritius and Indonesia.

They define their achievements in three ways....training/equipping, investigating, and creating/producing. I find this method of providing aid extremely effective and inspiring. I feel that it is a strategy which could help the fashion industry create more sustainable products and a more sustainable community.

I can not express how excited I am to connect with such an organization. Please visit their website and explore. They have an excellent team, an impressive number of accomplishments, and loads of info.

I will be participating in their Fashion Cycle event which raises awareness for the abuses in the cotton industry. The cotton industry is valued at over $30 billion a year yet prices have fallen by 50% since 1990. 99% of the world's cotton is grown by the rural poor in developing countries. One would hope this massive industry would improve the lives of the local people. Unfortunately this is not the case and several issues need to be addressed. The money WE raise will go directly to helping EJF tackle these issues including child labor, pesticides, water supply, and subsidies involved in production. I will spare you my ranting of the details ....but please know I am very passionate about this cause and hope to find other ways to help in the future. I am proud to be doing what I can now and learning more about how I can help. I encourage you to  visit the following sites to learn more....there is much to learn

I am very excited to join this effort. As I am graduating in June with a degree in fashion design I see this as a great opportunity for me to establish some expectations of myself. Fashion is just one way of making our world more beautiful and that is my mission. If I don't hold myself accountable to the environmental concerns linked to my creative efforts I will never be able to accomplish such a goal. I have been given a great deal of beauty through you and will do my best to amplify your love and support. Please help me to raise awareness of this organization so they may continue to do what they do best!

   Its gonna be FUN!!!!!!

Love,

   your Liz

FUN!

About the charity

EJF works in some of the world's most difficult and remote countries to protect vulnerable communities, wildlife and wild places. Our campaigns have led to action on forced labour and human trafficking, national and global bans on deadly pesticides and arrests of illegal 'pirate' fishing trawlers.
