Story
I’m Georgia and I’m 8 years old and I’m completing a Danceathon.(Using my mum’s just giving page.) I was born 9 weeks early on 18 0ctober 2011, I was small for my gestation at just 2lbs 6oz (literally a bag of sugar.) Mummy and Daddy say I made good progress initially not needing help to breathe but at 3 and 5 weeks I had to be ventilated. (We heard that so much over lockdown which is how I came to understand more about my start to life ..) At 3 weeks I got an infection and then started road to recovery only to get a very scary infection Klebsiella at 5 weeks. With the dedicated staff on the Derby NICO unit I was ventilated and given antibiotics and two blood transfusions but it was once I was off the ventilator I started my proper road to recovery and finally out of an incubator. At 9 weeks old and on my due date I went home and never looked back, I was a good baby but a mischievous toddler(very busy Grandad liked to describe me) and now I love to dance and drive my family crazy. 😊
After the COVID 19 pandemic and lockdown I learnt more about how thankful our own family are to the NHS and particularly the Neonatal unit in Derby, as Mummy and Daddy say “we may not have Georgia today.”
I wanted to do something to help. Many charities are struggling and know how important this charity is to many families sitting day after day next to their baby and needing hope.
