Story
In July this year Elise will join a group of students from GSAL to visit Malawi as part of a long standing commitment from her school, GSAL (The Grammar School at Leeds), to support schools and communities in Malawi.
The Malawi project was started in 1988 by Barry Brindley, a teacher at the then Leeds Girls’ High School (LGHS) who had recently returned from spending 14 years in Africa. The project continues to this day, following the merger of LGHS and GSAL in 2008. Barry has also created a charity called the Zikomo Trust.
During the tour Elise will visit schools, an orphanage and a hospital with essential educational and medical equipment. She will also give time to practical projects such as painting curriculum resources onto classroom walls and helping with the children.
Elise needs to raise money to help with the equipment needed and so is running a distance at the gym which is equivalent to the length of one side of the Malawi Lake, i.e. 365 miles.
