Story
Yes--I'm doing it...YET AGAIN! It's been just over 3 years since receiving
this fantastic battery operated heart of mine! You've been so kind with
supporting me through my journey from bed to finish line at the Brighton
Marathon and Ironman 70.3 San Diego. Thanks to your generous support, Arrhythmia Alliance have
put your donations to good use by providing patient information leaflets
and providing support programmes for those undergoing pacemaker/implantable cardioconverter defibrillator (ICD) placement for the treatment of life-threatening arrhythmias. Funds have also been donated to the Veterinary Benevolent Fund to help provide ongoing mental/financial support for fellow veterinary/nurse colleagues experiencing the overwhelming pressures of turbulent life-events.
During my training sessions, I've had plenty of time to reflect on the various unexpected events many of us will inevitably have to face at some stage in our lives. Some of us get away relatively unscathed, where others will receive an unbearable message from the universe being completely out of their control. It may be the diagnosis of an unexpected disease, death of a loved one, the breakdown of a relationship, loss of a home, or even redundancy.
We as vets are inherently a nurturing and giving profession who constantly strive to provide an empathetic, compassionate and caring environment for both clients and their pets. Sadly, because of this, many vets will put their needs on the back burner until they've reach relative breaking point--this can show it's ugly head as a physical illness, drug or alcohol addiction, eating disorders, depression or chronic emotional/compassion fatigue.
Thankfully, there's help out there for both vets and our wonderful nurses. In my quest with keeping my heart happy and healthy, I want to take every opportunity to put wonderful charities such as the VBF in the spotlight, raise awareness of its existence, and to raise funds for our fellow colleagues in need.
I'm committed to raising more funds for this very important charity (VBF) during 2014-2015 by completing Ironman 70.3 Dublin. Please provide some much-needed support to provide ongoing assistance to members of our large veterinary family!
