Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit. This page has been set up in memory of Elijah Kyamwendo (30 September 1966 - 7th August 2012) .
Elijah inspired Kulika’s work from 1996 when he joined as a Key Farmer Trainer. A farmer since childhood, Elijah’s commitment to community development through sustainable farming and education ran deep.
Just as Kulika stresses sustainability in Ugandan farming, Elijah was dedicated to creating cyles that will endure. His philosophy underpinned the way he kept his own large family, a remarkable household comprising two boys of his own and eighteen other adopted children. Elijah’s wife died in a car crash in 2000 and, together with his widowed sister and her children, Elijah created what he called his “elastic house”. Many of the children were orphaned by Uganda's conflicts, by AIDS and by deaths in Elijah's wider family.
“When I'm in Uganda, I can’t spend a weekend without going home. The system has to keep going, and can keep going, but it needs to be monitored and supported by an experienced eye.” Elijah
We have set up this fund to support Elijah's "elastic house" and continue his family cycle. The most pressing need is for school and college fees so that the children and young people can finish their education. We would like to set up a fund that would be managed by Kulika Uganda which would give small educational bursaries to this group our fundraising target is £10,000
