Our daughter Elena was born on 31st March 2016 with a rare genetic condition which meant that her digestive system didn’t develop properly and this resulted in end stage liver failure. Thankfully, in August 2017 Elena received a multi-organ transplant at King’s College Hospital in London. Elena received 5 organs: a new stomach, liver, pancreas, small intestine and colon. The transplant was only partially successful and so Elena was re-listed for another multi-organ transplant. The first transplant gave us two great years at home, we were trained in all aspects of Elena’s care and she enjoyed life to the full.

Elena would not remain well for long without another multi-organ transplant and in August 2019, Elena received her second multi-organ transplant at King’s in London.

Elena recovered well initially post transplant but rejection set in and Elena had to have very strong anti-rejection medicine which left her vulnerable to infections. Unfortunately, Elena acquired several infections which resulted in her being ventilated on the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at King’s in London for 3 months. Sadly, Elena passed away on 30th December 2019 due to these complications post transplant. 

In memory of our daughter Elena, we want to raise awareness of the importance of organ donation and also raise money for King’s College Hospital Children’s Critical Care (High Dependancy and Paediatric Intensive Care Units) and see how much we can raise by 30th December 2021 which will be the second anniversary of her passing away.

Elena was an inpatient at King’s for 3 months in 2017 and 5 months in 2019. It’s a fantastic hospital which cares for some of the most critically ill children in the UK, including our little Elena.

We hope to collate all monies raised in memory of Elena to do something big for King’s College Hospital Children’s Critical Care. 

We have many fundraising events planned which we will share over the course of the year. Several of our friends and family want to fundraise for King’s in memory of Elena and we will use this one JustGiving page to raise money in one central location. All previous fundraising will be added to the money we raise and a final amount will be presented to King’s Children’s Critical Care.
