10,500 people in the UK have ataxia which is a progressive neurological condition that disrupts the messages sent from our brains to our muscles that are used to move, speak, listen and see. Ataxia UK funds research into finding treatments and a cure and provide support until they are found.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my Justgiving page.

This year I am running in the Great North Run and hoping that through your sponsorship I can raise funds for Ataxia UK.

2 years ago I had never heard of Ataxia and then after being investigated for about another 2 years, my stepdad was diagnosed with cerebellar ataxia.

Part of the brain, the cerebellum, is not working properly and this affects the balance and the speech. My stepdad is now no longer able to work and needs help with walking and his speech and swallowing are also affected. He requires constant care.

There is no medication to slow down or stop the deterioration for his particular form of Ataxia.
Ataxia UK is a charity that needs funding to continue to look for a cure for this and to support those suffering from the condition.  I hope you will support my appeal.
