Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
We are fundraising for the Scottish Association for Mental Health as we want to raise awareness for such a taboo subject and more importantly, to try help prevent any other family go through what we had to endure last year with the passing of our Mum.
We lost our Mum suddenly last year. After being missing for a few days, her body was sadly found. This was a very tough time, and still is hard to accept. Obviously, afterwards, we were full of questions about what happened. It just didn't make sense. A lot of which wouldn't be answered until the post mortem was released. Although the cause of death turned out to be natural, that day she had attempted to take her own life. Finding this out was extremely difficult and made me question even more. There are still answers we'll never get. We never knew that Mum ever had any mental health issues, but she obviously must have had something to leave her in such a dark place with the want to take her own life. I can't even begin to imagine how low she felt to be in that scary place.
How amazing would it be, if even one person spoke out about their feelings and got the vital help needed to bring them from that dark place?!
For our fundraising, we are aiming for Laura to swim 100 widths, which is equivalent to 1 mile. For those of you who don't know, Laura has a Cerebral Palsy, a disibility which mainly affects the muscles in her legs. Although she is 18, in some ways she is like a toddler learning wise, and is only recently taking a few steps by herself. So, by having her do 100 widths is a huge challenge!!! This will greatly benefit strentghening her muscles as well.
We aim to do this on the 24th of July, which will be my 21st birthday. I can't imagine celebrating a big birthday without my Mum there, so I want to do it on this day for her. :)
