Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
As some of you may be aware nearly 10 years ago now my dry-witted and occasionally annoying brother, Alex, was diagnosed with Acute Lympthoblastic Leukemia (ALL). This is my family's story.
I still remember the day of his diagnosis vividly. I had been at an early season cricket practice and gone back to a friend's house afterwards. At the same time my brother went from being a seemingly healthy kid with a few bruises to a critically ill child who was instantly rushed to intensive care.
The one thing which stuck with me most that day was being told of the events unfolding by my dad over the phone. He did his best to hide it but I could hear through the cracking in his voice that he was scared of the enormity and severity of this situation.
Thankfully as the days and weeks went on, we as a family got over that initial fear upon hearing the word 'cancer'. The amazing doctors and nurses that we met during my brother's three and a half years of chemotherapy reassured us that thanks to the work of charities such as Bloodwise (formerly Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research), cancer was no longer the death sentence it once was.
Those three and half years, especially the earlier months were some of the most stressful and scary times my family has gone through but ultimately it was a happy ending as my brother is now 20 years old and about to finish his final year at university and is as annoying as ever.
That is why I feel it is only right for my to give up a bit of my spare time for training for this triathlon so that I can raise some money for a charity which does such amazing work in funding research which will save countless lives of loved ones for years to come.
All donation sizes welcome!
Thanks again,
Edward
