Story
Hello my name is Edin and I am 8 years old. I was born 8 weeks early as I just couldn't wait to join my family. I was a strong healthy baby but at 1 year old my mum and dad had noticed something wasn't quite right, as I couldn't sit up yet. Well at 18 months old I was diagnosed as having quadriplegic cerebral palsy. My physio soon started and I started wearing splints, I got a special buggy. As I have grown stronger I have learnt to use a Kay walker, and have a wheelchair (which I really don't like very much) for longer distances.
My mum and dad new right from my diagnosis that I would need surgery several times throughout my life to ease the spasticity in my legs as I grew more and more. They recently heard about an operation called SDR or Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy, which would permanently release the spasticity in my legs allowing me to strengthen ALL the muscles in my legs and be free from the pains of having cramps in my muscles and allow me to stand tall and hopefully walk unaided.
I was accepted for this surgery at Leeds General Infirmary in April of this year which we are all delighted about, but sadly in May of this year my dad passed away, leaving a massive hole in our family. All our family and friends have been great support. My mum has worked so hard looking after my brother and I and has pushed me to work hard with my exercises (even when I didn't feel like it). My dad taught me that I am NOT my disability and to never give up on my dreams so we now ask for some help from all you friends out there to help us raise enough money for equipment and after care to help me grow strong after my operation and help me to walk. Thank you for taking the time to read my story.
