Story
Intense sunlight is evaporating all of the remaining water in East Africa. The severe drought is killing the livestock thousands of people rely on to eat and has turned farmland across the area into barren desert.
We have pledged to raise £20,000 towards a Solar Water Power Centre.
The Solar Panel Water and Power Centre is a specially designed and built project that provides water and electricity to entire communities.
The solar panel system will harness the sun's energy to bring water up and into a holding tank. From this store, the clean water is also piped direct to homes, with each household allocated a fair amount based on how many people live there. Farmers can also access the tank to water their crops and animals. As well as running the pump to bring up the water, the solar panels generate electricity, which is routed to local schools and mosques and to a power station, where people can charge torches and lanterns and even radios.
All this means entire villages have the basic supplies needed to for healthy lives and to work and learn their way out of poverty.
To avert a humanitarian catastrophe, we need your donations to save some of the 20 million lives at immediate risk of death as a result of the famine.
Please donate however much or little you can here on our page. You can even give by texting "SOLR50 £" to 70070.
Thank you.
