Story
My daughter Martha is 4 years old and was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia, a type of blood cancer on 24th November 2021. Since then Martha has started on 115 weeks of cancer treatment. Martha requires me to care for her full time as she needs daily medication and support with feeding and personal care. She has spells of weakness in her legs and side effects to her chemotherapy such as hair loss, loss of appetite and irritability. Overall she is responding well and tolerating treatment.
As a single mum with two other children of 6 and 17 years old, I have relied on support from the Rainbow Trust for helping with school collections and getting Martha's sister to her dance lessons. They have also provided respite so I can keep up my personal appointments such as the doctors and dentist and so I can occasionally go into work to see my team.
I want to help the Rainbow Trust Children's Charity continue being able to help families like mine with seriously ill children and I’d be very grateful for any support you can give right now in sponsoring me to run the London Marathon on the 2nd October this year.
"Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity supports families who have a child with a life-threatening or terminal illness. When a child has a serious illness, family life is turned upside down and time becomes more precious than ever. Rainbow Trust pairs each family with an expert Family Support Worker who enables them to make the most of time together, giving them practical and emotional support, whenever they need it, for as long as is needed. We support the whole family including parents, carers, the unwell child, brothers, sisters and grandparents."
