Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

Please support our fundraising efforts because we're cycling all the way ..............

FROM John O'Groats TO Lands End

And it’s a very long way!

The route from John O’Groats to Lands End (JOGLE) is undoubtedly beautiful so it won’t all be pain and grit. It’s around 1000 miles from the most northern point on the British mainland to the most southern and we're going to cover the distance in 9 days riding around 110 miles a day consecutively. (That’s further than the Tour de France ! Ok, maybe not quite as fast though!). Although we are regular cyclists, this will be a huge challenge for us. We think day 4 will be the toughest mentally. Not quite half way but tired from the previous 3 days of hard and hilly roads. We’ll be camping over night so no luxury bed to rest aching legs.

Our Chosen Charity

We are raising money for Kidney Cancer UK because Liz  lost her dad to kidney cancer in 2007.  He was diagnosed in January and died in March so we really didn’t have much time to get our heads around what was happening. We will complete the ride as a kind of memorial to Liz's dad.

We have paid for all expenses ourselves so every penny that we raise will be donated to charity. This challenge will also require training, effort and mental determination on my part so please reward us by considering a donation however small.

Every year there are about 6,000 newly diagnosed cases of kidney cancer in the UK -- that's 16 new cases per day or one every 90 minutes -- and the incidence is steadily increasing. It is the 12th most common type of cancer in the UK. It is an extremely difficult disease to treat effectively, especially after it has spread to other parts of the body. KCUK, founded in January 2000, is the country's first support organisation for kidney cancer patients and carers. It aims to provide reliable, up-to-date information about the disease and its treatment, to raise public awareness, to bring patients and carers together to share their experiences and discuss common problems, and to work with the medical profession to improve standards of care.

Your support will certainly spur us on when the biking gets tough
