Dynamic Dunwich Dynamo Duo...?
For our sins, we're doing the epic Dunwich Dynamo and cycling 120 miles / 200 km from London to the Suffolk coast with 1500 other nutters on the night of 30th June. We’re doing this partly for adventure and partly to fundraise for two fantastic causes close to our hearts; Trees for Cities (accessed here) and Practical Action (accessed via a separate fundraising page). We’re covering our own costs and every sponsorship penny / kroner raised will go directly to whichever of these two causes you chose to support. Thanks in advance for any support - please don't feel obliged to donate a lot, just learning more about these projects and spreading the word is plenty and if you are happy to donate money a mere £5 will absolutely suffice, it all adds up. (please scroll to read about our motivations...)
Anders chose to fundraise for Trees for Cities because:
“Trees are our unsung heroes, we need them in our daily life and on a global scale they’re massively declining; anything we can do to put more trees in the soil either in cities or rural areas should be done. Their environmental impacts of trees speak for themself, but it also brings happiness to be planting trees and looking at them. In the fight against climate change, which I thoroughly believe is the biggest challenge humanity faces, they play an important role. In prevention of climate change, trees store CO2 and prevent it from reaching the air and contributing to climate change. As a matter of fact, a large part of our world’s CO2 emissions come from deforestation. In respect of climate change mitigation, in the cities they shield and protect us from the sun on warm days. Tarmac absorbs the sun and becomes extremely hot, and a row of trees on the street will shield the tarmac, reducing the amount of sun reaching it. On rainy days trees act as a sponge sucking up the water, thereby limiting the risk of flooding. It’s a no brainer. Trees for Cities are doing extremely important work with their tree planting projects and they involve their local community too.
Thank you...
Thanks in advance for any support, it will make a real impact. It will certainly motivate Kirstie as she grits her teeth through the latter miles of by far the longest cycle ride she’s ever attempted; its gell filled seats, energy bars and padded spandex all the way for her! Whereas Anders, who did the race last year, wouldn’t go as far as to call himself experienced but will act as a witness in saying that teh feat is humanly possible to achieve, with a repeat of last years no rain run and much awaited sausage roll and tea stop as crucial motivating factors... it would however be beneficial to not miss the food stop this year.
Wish us luck...
