At the start of my 35th year I (belatedly) realised that I could no longer eat and drink what I liked without consequences on both my waistline and general health. As a result, I decided to try running (rather than curtailing my enjoyment too much) and to my surprise discovered that I actually quite enjoyed it. Maybe not marathon running levels of enjoyment but certainly a bit....

Coupled with this, having done little for charity in my life other than the odd donation here and there, I decided it was about time to try and do some good through my new found 'passion' and the London Marathon presented itself as an ideal opportunity to do so. I've worked in London for the  majority of my working life and so if I was to run any marathon it would have to be this, and Scope are a fantastic organisation that undertake incredibly important work across the capital and beyond.

To add to the challenge, and to hopefully increase my chances of completing the race in a semi-decent time, I will also be quitting all forms of alcohol from January 1st 2020 until race day - a daunting 116 days which will comfortably be my longest teetotal period for 20 years.

So, I am running 26.2 miles for the first (and most likely only) time in my life and I am asking for your help by donating to a very worthy cause. Please do give all that you can and I will do my best to complete the course in a respectable time!
