As part of my leaving London to move to South Africa I am also fundraising for Umzingisi: a rapidly growing youth sports charity that spans not only mass sports coaching, but also after-schools programs including life-skills and sexual health training, as well as a burgeoning program of high performance player selection within the townships and even for high school scholarships to formerly privileged schools. Some of you may remember that I spent 6 weeks coaching rugby and netball in the townships of Port Elizabeth in 2007, and this was in fact organised by what has now become Umzingisi. I will be returning in early November to work with their management in assessing the organisation's systems and controls and helping them to strategise for their future development and growth. Anything you can donate will go towards bringing together children with access to few resources but lots of enthusiasm, with sports equipment and coaches as well as mentoring and life-skills training.
