Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
We've talked about it for almost a year and having only just finalised the logistics, my friend and I be will the first people (I'm not aware of anyone else having done it) to attempt to swim Ullswater, Windermere, Coniston and Derwent Water in the English Lake District on 30th July. A total of 28 miles in one day.
Having not attempted this distance before, we feel we have trained hard over the past year and even acclimatised with 10 degrees c open water swims earlier in the year.
We estimate it will take us somewhere between 16-18 hours and is only made possible by a number of great people who will provide support both on the water in the way Kayaking along side us, which in its self is a challenging paddle and those who be getting us too and from each lake. Without this support we simply couldn't do it.
It will be a 0400 start from Pooley Bridge and are hoping for a welcoming sunrise around 0515, we are estimating Ullswater will take 4hrs 30mins, Windermere 5hrs 45mins, Coniston 3hrs 30mins and will be finishing under the last rays of light on Derwent Water.
We hope that this mentally and physically challenging wild swim becomes a new annual event.
We have always been reluctant to fundraise for any of our previous swims but feel this is worthy. I lost my dad to dementia several years ago and I'm well aware of the strain and pressure placed on loved ones and family and therefore would welcome any donations to Dementia UK.
Dementia UK provide the necessary support helping people living with dementia and their families. I also fully understand that we are all asked for sponsorship on a regular basis and therefore if you do not wish to donate perhaps you could offer 1hr, 2hr or even 3hr of your time to support someone living with dementia and their families. Time can be sometimes more precious than money. Thank you Duane & Mike.
