Story
Endometriosis affects 7 million women in the US and 200 million worldwide. The disease is a leading cause of infertility and often goes undiagnosed for 7-10 years. If endometriosis is not diagnosed early it can lead to significant long term sequelae including chronic pelvic pain, infertility, spastic pelvic floor syndrome, bowel obstruction, and kidney damage.
I am a Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgeon at the Cleveland Clinic with the majority of my practice dedicated to diagnosis and treatment of advanced endometriosis. I see first hand everyday the incredible impact this terrible disease has on my patients from both a physical and mental perspective. Quicker diagnosis and correct surgical intervention are critical for optimizing patient outcomes. I have subsequently dedicated my career to advancing knowledge around endometriosis including patient advocacy, research to understand the pathophysiology of endometriosis, and advancing surgical techniques, including training MIGS fellows, to increase the number of advanced surgeons available to our patients.
Despite the large number of women affected, the federal government only sets aside ~$1 per diagnosed patient for research each year. This makes financial support for people with endometriosis critical. Please consider donating today to help advance knowledge and treatment options for patients suffering with this disease!
