Story
Hi I am raising money for Animals Asia whose objective (among other things) is to end the evil bear bile farming trade in Asia. Around 10,000 bears – mainly moon bears but also sun bears and brown bears are currently kept on bile farms in China and Vietnam.
Bear bile farming is unimaginably cruel. These beautiful animals are farmed, taken away from their mothers when they are cubs, kept in tiny cages for up to 30 years in the most appalling conditions and are painfully milked for their bile often via a catheter inserted into their gallbladder, just so humans can use it for medicine.
Some people have been finding living their lives under lockdown rules difficult but we can still go for a walk every day, go to the shops etc and have our relative freedom. Imagine having to spend your life in a tiny cage, not big enough to turn around in, for decades on end. I have not uploaded any images of the conditions these bears are kept in because they are too upsetting. And sadly there are similarities with the conditions these bears are kept in with our own farming practices here in the UK.
I don't think it is possible to understand the fear, anguish and loneliness these innocent animals must feel and it is a truly disgusting example of how humans often treat nature with so much contempt.
Animals Asia rescue these bears and provide them with a home in their sanctuaries and are working with the Vietnamese and Chinese governments to shut these bear farms down. It costs roughly £1000-£2000 to rescue a bear depending on the complexity of the rescue and the location of the bile farm.
The Cape Wrath Trail is a 3 week trek from Fort William to Cape Wrath and it is my 40th Birthday later this month so I am asking for donations for either of those reasons.
Also please consider setting up a regular donation to this charity if you feel it is worthwhile - even a couple of £ a month is good. And please feel free to forward this to anyone else you think might like to donate.
Thank you
Douglas
