Story

I will be running the London marathon the the 2nd October 2022.

My father spent some of his last days in the Severn Hospice in Shropshire before he lost a noble fight to cancer, and it was then that I first really recognised the incredible work of Hospices. They focused on quality of life, and made a very painful process as comfortable as it could be for him. It was a pretty horrible time and thing to go through, something made much easier by the brilliant work of the hospice at home team, that did absolutely everything they could for Dad. I genuinely think that these places are so incredibly important, providing the best possible care for people in their final days of life, going above and beyond. It is for this reason that I want to make sure that these incredible establishments stay open and working to the best of their ability, and am doing my bit by raising money for the Royal Trinity Hospice in Clapham by running the London Marathon 2022.

Despite being a keen runner, a marathon as I’m sure you know is not a challenge to be taken lightly. 26 miles, (42 kilometres), of running takes a serious toll on the body and will take a lot of training. I hope you will all recognise that it’s a proper challenge, and hopefully will see it as something worth donating for.

In the words of the Royal Trinity Hospice - “We believe that every moment matters, so we go above and beyond to help our patients and their families make the most of every moment they have left. Hospice care is as much about living as it is about dying. We want to give our patients the time and support they need to make informed decisions about how they die. We’ll continue to be there after death, for those close to them, providing specialist emotional and practical support, no matter their age. Last year we cared for 2,500 people at the hospice and out in the community.”

The aim for fundraising is £5000, but if we reach it, why stop there? Such an incredible cause deserves as much help as possible, and I hope you will all join me in raising as much as possible.
