Story
Hi and thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Back in 2019 I sadly lost my Mum after her courageous fight against poor health as a result of Parkinson’s disease and other underlying health issues.
In memory of my Kenyan born Mum and the parting gifts that she gave us to be humble, kind and charitable, I made a commitment to support SeeKenya in her memory.
Back in 2019, I joined SeeKenya for a 2 week trip to Kenya to help as best as I could to run an eye clinic during which we helped over a thousand people in need of professional health care, with eye tests, dispensing medication and providing approximately 1000 prescription glasses.
Unfortunately due to Covid, the charity has not been able to return since 2019, but we’ve just been given the green light and will be venturing out again in November this year. But we have our work cut-out. The charity had been making 2 trips a year, but with a gap of 3 years, there is a huge backlog to work through.
During my last trip, I came away with a deeper understanding of how desperately this support is needed in Kenya, where professional eye care that many of us take for granted, is non-existent. A primary school teacher we helped told me when I handed over her new glasses and tried them for the first time, “now I can actually see the work my children do”. Yes, difficult for us to comprehend when for us that is a given!
So please support as best you can to help this worthy cause. For transparency, I use my annual leave from work to support this charity, and your contribution will go towards funding travel fees, equipment for testing / making prescription glasses, and the supply of medication, lens and frames.
Thank-you.
