Story

Thank you for visiting the memorial page for our wonderful grandmother, Dilys Rees.

Dilys passed away peacefully comforted by her grandchildren Richard, Sharon, Simon and niece Pat on September 11th 2013 at Neath & Port Talbot Hospital, aged 98.

Determined, courageous yet incredibly caring and kind, Dilys will forever be missed by her many relatives and friends who came to cherish their time with her.

Dilys was born on November 20th 1914, at her parents home on Dynevor Road, Skewen. Her early years were spent helping her mother Winnie raise 6 brothers. Dilys then worked at the Neath Abbey Mill before marrying her beloved husband Garfield.

Their daughter Christine was born in 1947, and sadly passed away too young at age 52 in 1999. Christine and husband Colin had three children Richard, Sharon and Simon who Dilys enjoyed being a loving and caring grandmother for (and telling off as required!).

Dilys was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in November 2012, and bravely battled with it defying all medical predictions. Corageous throughout, she enjoyed her final year spending time with many of her friends, neighbors and family. Many thanks to each and every one who helped during this difficult time.

We created this page in lieu of flowers for her funeral, and if you wish make a donation in support of the charity Cancer Research UK.

You are also welcome to leave a message in memory of Dilys.

Best wishes,

Richard Thomas, Sharon Jones, Simon Thomas.
