Diane has taken up the challenge to trek a 100Km stretch of the Great Wall of China for the Alzheimer’s Society in October 2012.

Alzheimer’s Society research shows that 750,000 people in the UK have Dementia with numbers set to rise to 1 million by 2025. Each year 100,000 people in the UK develop dementia and 1 in 3 people over 65 will die with the disease, most of us know someone whose life has been affected by dementia. Alzheimer’s Society is the leading support and research charity in the UK for people with dementia and those who care for them. Alzheimer’s Society needs to raise money to help people live well with dementia today and for research to find a cure for tomorrow.

Diane said “ My Mum was diagnosed with early Alzheimer’s 2 years ago, she lived in sheltered accommodation with my support and the help of carer’s twice a day. Eventually she was unable to live alone and now lives at Hunters a marvellous private care home where she is very happy and well looked after. My Mum is fortunate as she has the finances to fund this care but unfortunately not everybody is in the same position and the Alzheimer’s Society provide care to the sufferer and their carers when they need it most. Subsequently I have time to myself which was spent caring for my mum and have decided to use this time to Charity fundraise for the Alzheimer’s Society. I am challenging myself both physically and mentally and taking myself out of my comfort Zone with this Trek and hope to raise the awareness of Alzheimers and money for a worthy cause along the way .My Mum is very proud of me !

Diane is organising many events throughout the year including a 60’s/70’s Disco, Fancy dress bike ride, cakebakes, booksales to name just a few and hopes to raise £3,000 for the Alzheimer's Society. 11.03.2012 Update - I wish to thank everybody who supported me at my Booksale yesterday and am overwhelmed by everyone's generosity ! I raised £435 for the Alzheimer's Society THANK YOU !
