Story
As I start another decade of my life, I have given myself some challenges to raise funds for JDRF, to raise awareness to type 1 diabetes & fund research to cure, treat & prevent type1 diabetes.
I am calling this years challenges five@fifty. I am going to do 2 marathons, 2 half marathons, & a 310 mile in 24hrs cycle ride.
I start by doing the Virgin Money London Marathon on April 24th.This will be the first time that I have done this & only my second marathon.
On May 8th i am running in the Ravenscar Half Marathon, this is a challenging 13.1 mile off road half marathon that uses coastal paths & the disused railway line.
I then have a cycle challenge, this is the same one that I did last year. Newcastle to London, 310 miles in 24hrs. I did it in just over 26hrs last year & would like to do it within 24hrs this year. Due to family & work commitments I had to withdraw from doing this challenge.
I am doing more running events to complete my challenges for this year. They are the Great North Run 13.1miles on September 11th & the Yorkshire Marathon 26.2miles on October 9th & Scarborough 10k on October 30th.
In doing these events, although they take some training & effort to do, they can be completed in a few hours or so. This is compared to what our daughter Chloe & everyone else with type 1 diabetes have to go through on a daily basis for the rest of their lives.
