Denise Van Outen made a long standing promise to best friend Tamara Edwards and her family that she would tackle the Great Wall of China with them to raise money for the Royal Marsden Hospital where Tamara’s dad Michael passed away from leukaemia last year. The close families have known each other since Denise was a teenager, and she’s godmother to Michael’s grandchild, Tamara’s daughter Elicia, 20, who will also be joining her on the emotional trek.
The trip was Denise’s idea after Michael’s wife Christine told her she was devasated that the childhood sweethearts had never managed to make their dream trip together.
“Mick and Christine are like a seond family to me and when Mick died we all went back to the house and Christine gave me the best piece of advice; whenever you get the chance to travel go for it. They had saved all their lives to go off and travel in their retirement and she was heartbroken they never made it to the Great Wall of China together.
“As soon as she told me that I said ‘right we’re going, and we’ll do it for Mick.’ I felt it was something positive to do and would give everyone a focus because I didn’t know what else I could say or do to help them.”
It is going to be hard work, it’s not going to be glamourous at all and we know it’s going to be very emotional. We are treking between 6-10hrs a day for 7 days.
Our team consists of:
Denise Van Outen, Christine Edwards, Tamara Edwards, Elicia Murphy, Georgia Beaman and Kirsty Williams.
We would like to thank you for all your generous donations towards this hugely worthwhile cause.
