On 25th May 2014 my sister and I are running 10 kilometres (6.2 miles) for two amazing charities :-

Salford Royal Hospital's acute stroke unit in memory of Lionel Shiers (Z''L)

and

Breast cancer research in memory of Harriet Jefferies (Z''L)

We are training hard to better our times and our total from 2012's Race for Life when we raised over £1500 for Cancer Research UK. 

As an employee of Salford Royal and also having witnessed the amazing care given to a close family member in May last year - I know they can utilise every penny donated. 

So even if you can only give a few pounds it would mean a lot.

Salford Royal provides the Comprehensive Stroke Centre for the Greater Manchester Clinical Stroke Network.  

We provide hyperacute stroke care for people presenting with symptoms of stroke within four hours of onset from across Greater Manchester, in collaboration with our colleagues in the Primary and District Stroke Centres across the city.  

We also provide a full range of stroke services, including stroke rehabilitation and Early Supported Discharge services, to people with stroke in our own locality of Salford.  

We provide a daily clinic for people presenting acutely with TIA (transient ischaemic attack). Our achievements have been recognized in the past with an award from Trustech (2005) and the 2004 Bupa Clinical Excellence Award. 

We are a research active Stroke Centre, working with our colleagues in the NW Stroke Local Research Network and we are a designated Hyperacute Stroke Research Centre. We participate in National Stroke Audits including SINAP and the Royal College of Physicians Sentinel Audits, and in the International Thrombolysis Audit.
