Morocco closed its borders back in early March due to the coronavirus pandemic and there is no current indication of when this will change.  There has been no revenue from tourism. There is no sign of the borders reopening, although they will at some point, and the issue of money for horse food remains a concern.

I don't know if you've ever been to Marrakech (Morocco) and seen the beautiful horses and carriages that take tourists on sightseeing trips around the city, or perhaps you’ve seen them on television footage or something else?
There are 600 of these horses around the city and SPANA are helping to feed all 600 horses currently at risk of starvation. These horse are well regulated by SPANA and the owners are well supported.
The cover photo is a very recent image of two of the Marrakech horses outside SPANA collecting some food.

These owners care deeply for their horses but they simply do not have enough money of their own to feed them. There is no state financial aid. When these horses are working they bring in enough revenue for up to 4 families.
My dad used to have a horse and cart as he was a rag and bone man, as was my great uncle, and I have a deep love and respect for horses. I have put some photos of them and their horses in the photo gallery.
It is inconceivable to imagine not having food to feed your horses and the means to get any money to do so.

I first knew of SPANA back in 2013 when they helped me to bring a street dog back to the UK. I found him (Eric) in a ditch at the side of the road in Marrakech dying. He was helped to a much better state of health and I had him with me in the UK for almost 6 years before he died in December last year and he was the doggy love of my life and I still love him dearly. I visit SPANA whenever I go to Marrakech, and I will always do whatever I can to help whenever that may be.

If I am being really honest, I don’t believe that it is acceptable for any living creature to starve to death if it is preventable, and I believe this can be prevented.

I work as a nurse and therapist in a busy mental health service and I dress make in my free time.
I would appreciate you sponsoring me to dress make through all the weekends in September and October and all of the money raised will go straight to feed the horses.
I will post updates of everything I make and this will all be sold and this money will also go to SPANA for the horses.

Thank you so much
