My life, and I'm sure many of yours, has been affected by cancer. We all know someone who has cancer, has beaten cancer or has sadly passed away from cancer.

Following the loss of my boss Emma and my Mum Marion to cancer in 2012, plus my brother Rob's diagnosis of incurable cancer just weeks before my Mum passed away, I was determined to do something positive so ran the Virgin London Marathon for Cancer Research UK Limited. Having raised nearly £9k in 2014 and nearly £6k in 2015, I felt that I just couldn't stop there. Treatments need to continually improve and we must ultimately find a cure for cancer. Since running the London Marathon last year, a number of my friends and friends' family have been diagnosed with cancer and tragically, some have lost loved ones to cancer. This cause means so much to me - we MUST find a cure soon.

So having obtained another Good for Age place for next year's London Marathon, my aim this time is to raise £5k and I appreciate that I am calling upon my family, friends and colleagues to support me again. Apart from supporting a very good cause, there is however an added incentive. Before he retired, my boss, former RE Departmental Managing Partner Adam Cleal, kindly asked me what I would like as a leaving gift. Thinking a Maserati Quattroporte GTS was probably asking a little too much, I shrugged my shoulders and said I wasn't sure. He then suggested that instead of a present, would I prefer him to support my fundraising campaign for next year's Virgin London Marathon by matching every pound I raise, with a cap of £5k? I accepted without hesitation. Stuff the Maserati. So if you guys can help me raise £5k, Adam has to stump up £5k.  £5k! THAT'S £10K TO CANCER RESEARCH UK LIMITED...!!!
