Story
A diagnosis of Parkinson's disease is a life changing event which affects over 145,000 people in the UK and the lifetime risk for each of is a staggering 1 in 37! Despite this prevalence, the mainstay of treatment remains symptom control with drugs which were first prescribed in the 1960s and this is why Cure Parkinson's is so important in funding innovative research to find new treatments to slow, stop and reverse the disease.
Cycling 1,000 miles is a huge challenge for us (the OGIL in the title - Old Girls in Lycra - is a clue!) but this has been a positive choice and despite all the punctures, headwinds and aching spots which we'll encounter en route there will always be a finite end in sight. Until a cure is developed, people with Parkinson's don't have this luxury and the physical challenges are a daily reality - life on a bike going uphill into a headwind all day, every day!
Cure Parkinson's is here for the cure - please help us make this reality.
