Story
I lost my sight in one eye in October driving home from work when my retina (and macula) came off! It was a bit scary but a few days later I had a gas bubble fitted which pushed the retina back on and miraculously I got my sight back!
It was difficult doing every day things for awhile; my depth perception altered and I bumped into things constantly! I was one of the lucky ones and I am forever grateful to the eye surgeon at The RVI who saved my sight!
My experience made me think how hard it must be, every single day, for my lovely friend Joanne White (nee Milne) who was born deaf and is now gradually losing her sight. She has Usher Syndrome; a condition which results in hearing and sight loss which I’d never heard of until recent years.
I can’t begin to imagine how tough Joanne’s life must be at times yet you’d never know in a million years! Joanne lives a very full life with her beautiful family and doesn’t let this dreadful condition get her down for long. She is such a positive upbeat person who touches the lives of everyone she meets and inspires them to quit complaining and be the best person they possibly can.
CUREUsher raises funds for research into a cure for Usher syndrome, the leading cause of genetically inherited hearing and sight loss, and raises awareness of the condition affecting over 400,00 people worldwide. CUREUsher is a registered charity in England and Wales, number 1181293.
I’d be very grateful for any donation for this worthwhile charity no matter how small 🙏❤️
