Story

As most of you know, it is with great regret that I have had to pull out of this event. I have lymphoedema as a leftover from my cancer treatment and I am really struggling to keep the lymphoedema under any sort of control during training. i have had 4 infections in 3 months and I am damaging my arm. I feel terrible about this and so wish that I could do the ride.

Thank you to all my sponsors. Each and everyone of you has been brilliant and all the money raised will go to my chariies.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page!

Firstly I would like to make it clear that I am very surprised that I am doing this! I truly do not know what got into me when I signed up. I am not a keen cyclist. I am not even a cyclist! I feel dread and terror when I think about June 2013.

So why did I sign up for a cycle Kenya trip that covers 400km in 5 days(with loads of uphill)?

Apart from liking the phrase, ”women v cancer”, the simple answer is that it’s time for me to give back. I was diagnosed in January 2005 with aggressive breast cancer aged 35. I had every treatment and preventative treatment offered to me and I am happy to report that all seems well now. It was a vile time and having had cancer is a feeling that never entirely leaves you. But as each year has passed, and all the operations fade into the background, I have had a little niggle that I to need to raise money for the wonderful charities that help people exactly like me at a time when they really need help.

I feel that I should raise money for all the fantastic people and research that means I am here today to see my children grow. I fully appreciate that I am one of the lucky ones and those like my mum, Barbara and Andy's mum, Margaret, and June and the amazing Mr Querci (Royal Marsden) (who literally saved my life both physically and mentally) were not so lucky.

I am riding for Breast cancer care, ovarian cancer action and Jo's cervical cancer trust. I am riding to celebrate my own survivorship, and in memory of Barbara Stevenson, Margaret Barrett, June Linley and Mr Querci and for those family and friends who are fighting the cancer battle now. You are so inspirational and you know who you are!!

So please, please sponsor me. Pass this round to anyone who you think may be interested.
