Story

Hello,

I'm Dean and I was injured in Afghanistan on the 2nd of July 2010. Take a look at my blog to follow my journey through my recovery http://thebackoutthereblog.tumblr.com/. I was shot by a sniper, the bullet went completely through my brain from left to right exiting just above my right ear.

I have been in full time rehabilitation or in hospital ever since I was injured. My family and friends were told that I wouldn't survive the weekend and 5 weeks later when I eventually woke up from my coma I was told that I would never talk, stand or walk.

I can talk well and I started to walk unaided for the first time on the 2 year anniversary of my injury, I can manage to walk about 10-20 metres unaided at the moment (21/10/2012) and I plan to walk 4.5 kilometres in May 2013. I can now walk about 70-80 metres unaided (26/11/2012).

I walked 135 metres unaided on 12/12/2012 and 1 kilometre with my crutch on 14/12/2012.

I used the AlterG treadmill to walk 500 metres on 20% of my body weight on 18/12/2012 and 550 metres on 25% of my body weight on 19/12/2012.

I walked 500 metres over uneven ground with my new cane 14/03/2013.

I managed to stay on my feet without a rest for 2 hours yesterday (11/04/13). It's the longest I've done without resting so far :-).

You can donate by text also using DEAN79 5 to 70070 and that would donate £5.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Please dig deep and donate.
