Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In June this year, on Father’s Day, we lost a dear Husband, Dad, Granddad, Father-in-law and Friend, David Wheeler, to Cancer. He was looked after and cared for, during the last 10 days of his life, by the wonderful staff at Jersey Hospice. They not only looked after him, they also looked after us as a family. Dad said many times during those last few days that he felt like he had won the lottery and couldn’t believe how lucky he was to be in the Hospice, being looked after by such lovely people and have such beautiful surroundings. Overlooking the stunning bays of St Helier and St Aubin, the view from the Hospice happens to be the final 3 miles of the Jersey Marathon course.
A week before my Dad died, I promised him that I would come back to Jersey in October and run the Jersey Marathon, raising money for Jersey Hospice. I pointed out those last 3 miles to him and asked if he would give me a helping hand and run them with me on the day. He told me he would be by my side the whole way.
Our Dad was an avid Crystal Palace supporter (the “Eagles”) since a boy. He was delighted when his beloved Palace made it back to the Premiership the month before he died.
As a family we all wanted to raise money for Jersey Hospice, so Joel Wheeler, Baz Wheeler, Mark Starr, Matt Boxall and Elly Stannard have teamed together to become Team “Where Eagles Dare” for the Marathon Relay race. On Sunday 6 October 2013 they will complete the marathon course as a relay team and I will run the full marathon.
Please help us to support Jersey Hospice and give something back as a thank you to them and to pay tribute to the wonderful David Wheeler, Husband, Dad, Granddad, Father-in-law and Friend.
Thank you for your support.
