Story
The Covid-19 pandemic has had a catastrophic effect with the cancellation of thousands of events and the loss of billions in income through fundraising events.
The Virgin Money London Marathon alone, which should have taken place on Sunday 26 April, is the world’s biggest one-day fundraising event, which raised more than £66.4 million for thousands of charities in 2019.
Many of these charities have had to reduce or stop services at a time when vulnerable members of society need them most; thousands of staff have been placed on furlough and many charities will not survive the next few months.
I therefore want to do something to help a local charity that has been supporting my family since lockdown. The Grace Kelly Children’s Cancer Trust have been supporting us together with lots of other families in Worcestershire. They have spent over £5000 already by providing essential care boxes and small grants.
I have previously shaved all of my hair off (twice), taken part in the London Moonwalk plus a few shorter midnight walks. This time, I have decided to join another couple of oncology mum’s to lose weight. We all have our own targets that we want to achieve and knowing that people will hopefully donate and support us will give us the encouragement to do what we want to achieve.
During lockdown, I have been baking quite a lot as it is something to do during the many hours that there are in each day. This has lead to the gaining of some pounds! I unfortunately cannot go to work as the company is currently closed and my family is shielding due to my son being extremely vulnerable following chemotherapy for acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. This is really disappointing for me as I had only just started working again after over 3 years absence during my son’s treatment.
