Story
Thank you so much for visiting my page! Now, here’s what I’m up to:
In January 2014 I will be leaving my family and friends behind for just over 3 months to fly to Costa Rica & Nicaragua to be a Volunteer Project Manager for Raleigh International.
For those of you who have never heard of Raleigh International, they are a youth and sustainable development charity who not only provide life changing experiences to the young people who volunteer, they help both community and environmental / conservation projects in some of the poorest and remote parts of the world.
I’m keeping my fingers crossed that I can make a genuine difference to the communities and people I work with – I’m not sure if I’ll ever have a better opportunity to help than this. This is going to be a challenge of a lifetime!
I would be grateful if you could please sponsor me and help support the work of Raleigh International – an amazing youth and sustainable development charity.
The Project: I will spend 1 month helping local communities access basic services such as water, sanitation, education and energy, & then a second month working to help conserve and protect the Country's natural habitats and wildlife. For the third month of the expedition I will help lead a team of volunteers on a gruelling 4 weeks trek through the Jungle, battling through some of the area’s most outstanding countryside including several active volcanoes, dense jungle, rivers and ruins of ancient settlements. The 4am starts, tough climbs and up to 10 hours treking a day are definatley going to be a challenge! As is no Golf for over 3 months!
Fundraising is a crucial part of Raleigh. All money raised goes towards funding development and materials for projects, in addition to bursaries for participants from host countries and disadvantaged young people from the UK. The expeditions are tough and help the young people develop key skills like teamwork, adaptability, problem solving, leadership and perseverence.
Thank you xx
