Cycling from London to Edinburgh - done it!
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Finished the Big Ride at 554 miles on Tuesday 29 June, eight days after leaving London. With unbroken sunshine and (until Sunday) a gentle breeze behind me, I couldn't have asked for better cycling weather. The route has included spectacular sights such as Cambridge, Lincoln and York and surfaces ranging from high-quality traffic-free tarmac to rough tracks in forests and along cliff edges. Leafy trees and hedgerows led to some spectacular navigational errors, more than matched by meeting cyclists who changed their day's plans there and then to pilot me through otherwise complex routes and the excellent advice from Louisa Reeves of PwC who cycled with me for the first 120 miles. Best bit: celebrating our 21st wedding anniversary with dinner by the river in Lincoln; best ride: the "Water Rail Way" - 30 tarmac, off road, level miles from Boston to Lincoln with spectacular views, interpretation panels and waterways; worst bit: Berwick-upon-Tweed to Dunbar - even harder hills than Yorkshire; most frustrating bit: two miles of glorious downhill only to meet a dual carriageway....to find the right junction was several miles to the north...and yes, back up them two miles again. But no punctures or major mechanical problems (for me or the bike)
The encouragement given by everyone who's donated to this project, as well as the truly outstanding support I've had from Carolyn (Mrs W-W) - director of logistics, nutrition, procurement, picnics, car packing & unpacking, roadside rescue and morale - made this possible and great fun. And it looks like YOU will have raised over £2500 for the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign. Thank you so much for that.
If you are able to support the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign, that would be great. JustGiving will send your money directly to them and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer.
Thanks for your support - whatever form it takes, or has taken.
Kind regards
