Story

My father, David Wilson, was diagnosed with cancer 18months ago and has been fighting a very private and courageous battle without ever giving up hope.  Sadly his journey came to an end and he passed away peacefully on 8th March 2021.

My father was a loving husband, father and grandfather.  His life was about hard work and determination; loyalty and family.  He had great enthusiasm for life and lived it to the fullest and was invariably always the life and soul of every party (normally with a glass of white wine in his hand).  He had many friends around the world and stayed in touch with all of them.  As a professional engineer, his job took him all over the world and he spent years travelling the Asia Pacific region from Japan to Pakistan with all the countries in between, developing, building and maintaining hotels for Holiday Inn and the Hilton Group of hotels.  He was extremely loyal to his friends and colleagues and was an excellent boss and mentor.

While his journey on earth may have come to an end, he would have wanted his life to be celebrated and remembered fondly with tales and laughter. See the Gallery of happy times. In the words of a poem by Helen Lowrie Marshall:

I’d like the memory of me to be a happy one.
I’d like to leave an afterglow of smiles when life is done.
I’d like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways,
Of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days.
I’d like the tears of those who grieve,
to dry before the sun of happy memories
that I leave when life is done.

My father was transferred to the Woking and Sam Beare Hospice in the final week of his life and the empathy and quality of care that he received was exceptional.  All the doctors, nurses and staff at the hospice provided unparalleled empathy and light at the darkest time for our family. We have set up this page in my father's memory to support the hospice so that others can benefit from this exceptional care.
