Story

Yes, I achieved my objective of walking from Stoke to Chester along the Two Saints Way in a day. I set off from Stoke at 5am and reached Chester at 9pm. When I measured it carefully on the map it was 48.7 miles and maybe, allowing for some ascent west of Stoke and at Beeston Castle, I got to the big 50?! Or 80 kilometres. My calves were feeling it the last 12 miles and I was bit achey on Saturday, but fine by Sunday. It was a very good ‘working walk’ and will help with writing the guide. I’ve estimated that we’ll need 500 waymark discs!

I’ve been so glad to be able to raise funds for the project and thankful for your gifts - any further sponsorship following this last walk would also be most welcome!

All the money I raise will come through the Fountain Gate Trust (Reg Charity no 298768) which supports the Two Saints Way Project.

Let me tell you one of the main reasons why I want to see this new walking route set up...

A major motivation for medieval pilgrims was to seek healing. I want to see modern pilgrims resourced in various ways (including a meditation guide) so that they can make an intentional journey to find health in body, mind and soul. I have also been inspired by a project in Belgium called Oikoten where young offenders have been sentenced to pilgrimage instead of prison often with positive results. Last September a drunk in Ireland was sentenced to do a pilgrimage to Croagh Patrick again with a very positive outcome – see http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-11718467 I would love to see those kind of stories multiplied on the Two Saints Way.

If you'd like to know more, there is a new article about the project at http://www.thisisstaffordshire.co.uk/news/Pilgrims-trail-sheds-light-Dark-Ages/article-3485609-detail/article.html

The website should be up soon at www.twosaintsway.org.uk

Alternatively email me at dlpott@twosaintsway.org.uk and I'll send you a pdf of our brochure.

In conjunction with my walk we are starting something called “Friends of the Two Saints Way”. If you'd like to become a friend and be kept in touch with future developments, please email me and let me know which of these two emails groups you'd like to belong to – they will come about 5x a year:

Either  Group A Regular News Updates

or Group B Regular News Updates + prayer points

(Those of you who already get these emails are herewith enrolled as “Friends of the Two Saints Way”!)

So... I invite you to celebrate with me by giving to help create this route and hopefully make a difference in many people's lives.

Many thanks,

David Pott
