On Sunday 5 August, I am taking part in the 2018 Hope House Cycle Challenge, a 70 mile route starting and finishing at Hope House, heading through glorious countryside and taking in Lakes Bala and Vyrnwy.

My nephew, Benjamin Davies, used to visit Hope House for respite care.  Benjamin suffered from Duchenne muscular dystrophy and passed away 3 years ago at the age of 18 - he is sorely missed.

I visited Benjamin a couple of times when he was at Hope House.  Two things in particular struck me.

First, the total and utter dedication of the staff and their extraordinary ability to cope with daily massive highs and lows in their work.

Second, the amazing bravery of the children.  None of them were angry or bitter about their conditions; they nearly all said, "There are people worse off than me".  In today's climate of blame and anger, they can teach adults a great deal about how to deal with adversity.

Please donate to this fantastic cause.
